About Gaited Horses

There are many, many breeds of gaited horses.  Missouri Fox Trotting Horses, Rocky
Mountain Horses, Kentucky and Spotted Mountain Horses are just a few.  We've chosen
these breeds to
ride, breed and sell because of their size, density of bone, sure-footed,
comfortable way of going, their gentle natures and quiet dispositions.

We live and ride in the Rocky Mountains of Western Montana's
Bitterroot Valley.  It's
rugged country, requiring sturdy, unflappable horses in the high country.  We expect a
lot of our horses because we need it: They must have the power to motor us up the
mountains.  They need strong hooves, sturdy bones and impressive size to negotiate the
terrain.  They have to possess quiet natures to stay relaxed and confident no matter
what we encounter -- be it bears, moose, elk, deer, mountain lions or wolves, never mind
dogs or cows.  And they have to haul us around in comfortable gait while doing it.

Below is a photo of the sunset over the Bitterroot Mountains, taken from my dining room
window.  Lovely as it is, it doesn't begin to tell you of the challenges of climbing them.
Them there hills can reach an altitude of about 10,000'.  Wussie horses need not apply.
